Summary

Remove deposits – increase production efficiency

PentoMag® for Cement Plants is an advanced fuel additive designed to prevent common issues such as buildups in cyclones and precalciners, as well as ring formation in rotary kilns.

The presence of sulfur and vanadium in petcoke accelerates the formation of these deposits, making them harder and more challenging to remove. PentoMag® counteracts the effects of vanadium, significantly reducing the buildup and ring formation during the process.

By modifying the properties of existing deposits, PentoMag® makes them easier to detach from surfaces such as cyclones, precalciners, and kilns, improving overall operational efficiency.

Action principle

Remove deposits in cyclones and precalciner

Improvement of safety conditions in cyclone & precalciner cleaning activities
Cleaning the cyclone and precalciner is hard physical
work, requiring special PPE, a high-pressure water
pump, and trained personnel for the operation.

The application of PentoMag® for cement substantially
reduces hazardous work for operating personnel.

Another issue caused by the vanadium content in fuel is the formation of vanadium pentoxide, which acts as a catalyst in the oxidation of SO₂ to gaseous SO₃.

PentoMag® for Cement Plants deactivates vanadium, eliminating its catalytic effect. As a result, the oxygen that would have been used in this reaction remains available within the system, leading to improved combustion efficiency and reduced energy consumption (lower kcal/kg of clinker).

Benefits

High efficiency of PentoMag® for cement plants

Sophisticated manufacturing and stabilization of the slurry containing up to almost 70% of active substances enables application of very low dosing rates. In most cases, between 0.4 to 0.5 liter per ton of petcoke is sufficient. Current dosing rate is always adjusted according to the vanadium content in the fuel.

Since implementing PentoMag® in our cement plant, we’ve seen a remarkable improvement in efficiency. The precise dosing of just 0.4 to 0.5 liters per ton of fuel has optimized our fuel usage while maintaining stable kiln performance.

Dosing rates and particle sizes were optimized after many years of experience

Advantages of additives in slurry form

Fuel additives have already been used for many years, initially in powder form. Practical experience was, however, not satisfactory, foremost because of relatively high particle size of powder components (typically 150 microns).

The smaller the particle, the greater the active surface.

Pentol is the first manufacturer who developed production of fuel additives in form of stable slurry containing micronized active substances in oil suspension. Slurry is also resistant to water (powder will agglomerate in contact with moisture and its efficiency will be strongly limited). Also, storage of additives in slurry form is easier and dosing more precise.

Maintenance

PentoMag is safe for transportation, storage & use

The chemical composition and the production process of PentoMag® minimizes safety hazards
related to transport, storage and use.
PentoMag is not considered as a dangerous good and based on vegetable oil to minimize its CO2 footprint.

50 years of Pentol’s experience

Pentol was founded in 1969 and has more than 50 years of experience with additives for coal and fuel oil fired boilers and furnaces. Since that time, composition and manufacturing process were continuously improved.
High concentration and stability of slurry additives were achieved. Additives can be stored for a long time without losing their properties.
Application of PentoMag® for Cement Plant does not cause any negative side effects for kiln operation and on clinker quality.

Efficiency

Modern and environment friendly production line

PentoMag fuel additives are produced using a state-of-the-art, fully automated production line in Grenzach-Wyhlen, a small town on the banks of the Rhine in southern Germany, near the Swiss border.

Pentol GmbH, the manufacturer of these additives, holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications. The company integrates environmental compliance as a key aspect of its overall management principles and operational procedures.

All employees are dedicated to continuous improvement, striving to prevent pollution and reduce resource consumption whenever and wherever possible.
